Ontario’s public sector including municipalities, universities, schools, hospitals, long term care facilities and other public sector consumers moved from the Regulated Pricing Plan to an hourly price for electricity on November 1, 2009. Here is a list of all designated consumers affected by the rate change.
This page contains resources and information that will help public sector facilities to smoothly make the transition to market-based electricity prices.

Other public sector facilities and businesses have taken action to reduce their electricity costs. The Profiles section contains research reports and case studies with municipalities, the health care sector and other public section consumers.
The case studies include successes that public sector consumers have had by improving control systems, participation in demand response programs and installing renewable generation projects such as solar panels. Also, several public sector customers have saved money simply by moving from the regulated price plan to market-based pricing.
The market price changes on an hour-by-hour basis due to how much electricity is required in Ontario for that hour. The current price and monthly average prices are available on the right side of this page. Here is a description of how the hourly price is set.
For public sector consumers interested in learning more about market-based electricity prices or starting to investigate energy efficiency projects a brochure is available on the five steps to managing your electricity costs. |
