Regulatory Affairs

Regulatory proceedings and decisions have a significant role in the evolution and development of electricity markets. Information posted here includes proceedings and decisions relevant to the IESO. Refer to the "Achieved Proceedings" section under the Document Type dropdown menu for documents posted prior to Dec 31, 2004.

In Ontario, IESO usage fees and licence conditions are approved by the Ontario Energy Board (OEB). OEB codes, licences, and rate orders are of significance to the IESO. At the federal level, the National Energy Board (NEB) grants power export permits and approves international power lines.

In the U.S., the IESO is an active participant in American regulatory Proceedings at the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission (FERC), U.S. Department of Energy (DOE), and state regulatory commissions because of the relevance of market design and industry structure developments in the U.S.

        IESO Licences and Permits

        IESO Licences and Permits issued by the Ontario Energy Board and the National Energy Board allow the IESO to discharge its duties to oversee of the IESO-administered markets and operate the IESO-controlled grid, as well as to facilitate emergency exports to neighbouring jurisdictions in the United States.
