Enhanced Day-Ahead Commitment Process (EDAC) -
Project Stages
Project Stages
The Project Management Stages include:
Project Initiation and Market Design
This stage incorporated project initiation exercises and the finalization of an Enhanced Day-Ahead Commitment Market Design. The Market Design involved significant participation of internal and external stakeholders, in order to perform detailed analysis as well as market design. This stage was completed on February 11, 2009, with the finalization and approval of the EDAC Market Design v1.0 by the Audit Committee, and direction to the Technical Panel to develop Market Rules for this design.
Detailed Design
The Detailed Design stage was completed in April 2010. It provided support to the stakeholder process for the finalization of the EDAC Market Design v1.0. The detailed design work was required in order to ensure that the EDAC Market Design could be implemented, and would not result in unintended or unfavourable market consequences, or require significant revisions to support the detailed design.
Following the approval of the EDAC Market Design, the Detailed Design stage was formally initiated to develop the following deliverables:
Deliverable |
Description |
Detailed Design |
This deliverable comprises the documentation of the details associated with the calculation/optimization engine, and the settlements equations. |
Functional Requirements |
This deliverable comprises the development of the functional requirements (of business and system processes) using a “Bid-to-Bill” analysis. The goal is to develop a comprehensive process framework that defines:
- All touch points (manual, automated, data, and integration); and
- Associated details that are impacted by the contemplated enhancements.
Development of the functional requirements will involve significant participation of external stakeholders in order to provide Market Design, as well as advice on the impact to their business processes. |
Business / User Requirements |
This deliverable comprises the development of all IESO business and user requirements of the systems necessary to support EDAC operation.
Development of the business and user requirements will involve significant participation of external stakeholders in order to provide Market Design, as well as advice on the impact to their business processes. |
Market Rules |
This deliverable comprises Market Rules additions and modifications required to support the contemplated enhancements. This process is managed through the Technical Panel process for rules approval. |
Solution Specifications |
This deliverable comprises the advanced prototyping of solutions.
Development of the solution specifications will involve significant participation of external stakeholders, in order for them to provide feedback about the impact the EDAC implementation will have on their IT systems. |
IT Design and Build
The IT Design and Build stage will involve significant participation of external stakeholders, in order for them to provide feedback about the impact the EDAC implementation will have on their IT systems.
The activities in the IT Design and Build stage include:
Activity |
Description |
All detailed solution, architecture, and integration design |
This activity includes the planning and development of the IT solutions related to EDAC and their integration into existing infrastructures. |
System, test plan, and script development |
This activity includes the system development and user acceptance test (UAT) plans. |
Unit, integration, and system testing |
This activity includes the verification and validation that solutions are fit for implementation. |
Technical Documentation |
This activity includes the detailed documentation of activities, tasks, and procedures. |
Market Testing and Trials
This stage will include the activities related to market trials including the development and execution of testing plans, the training of external stakeholders, and certification of market participants.
Transition to Service
This formal stage comprises activities necessary to ensure that all stakeholders (business, systems, internal, external, etc.) are ready, informed, and prepared for the new commitment process to go live.
