Ontario Demand Peaks

Customers with an average peak demand of over 5 MW (Class A Customers) have their Global Adjustment costs charged based on the percentage that their demand contributes to the overall system demand during the five peak hours of a defined base period. The five peak hours must occur on different days for this settlement calculation.

The information on this page will help consumers to track current daily system peaks as well as look at future forecast demand information. The forecast information on this page is currently available in other reports on the IESO website. Note that the IESO presents data on this page based on EST or market time which does not adjust for daylight savings time.

Ontario Demand information listed below is published in real-time to www.ieso.ca/demand. Allocated Quantity of Energy Withdrawn (AQEW) represents more precise, verified peak system demands for the five peak hours per Ontario Government Regulation 398/10. This is published 20 business days after the trade date. Only the highest demand hour of the day is used in each table. This information will help determine when the peak hours occurred, but should not be used for settlement purposes.

Glossary

AQEW is the figure used to determine the five peak hours for the Global Adjustment calculation for Class A consumers. It represents the total Allocated Quantity of Energy Withdrawn in the hour, net of certain load quantities as set out in Ontario Government Regulation 398/10. AQEW is available 20 business days after the trade date.

Hour Ending denotes the time when an hour ends, e.g. HE 14 represents the time period 1:00-2:00 p.m. EST.

Ontario Demand is available on an hour-to-hour basis from the IESO website. Because it is published in real-time and has only been verified to a rudimentary degree, it is not the figure used to determine peak hours.

Note: All data on this page is displayed for informational purposes only. System conditions can change between pre-dispatch and actual data resulting in differences. The IESO makes no representations, express or implied, and disclaims any and all liability as to the accuracy of this data.
